Not all the new Pixel 10 features are exclusive

It seems like every major flagship Android phone launches with some “exclusive” software features that trickle down to other models throughout the following year. The Pixel 10 seems to follow that trend, so here’s a list of all the new features that will also be available on the Pixel 9 series.

Battery health assistance

This feature is turned on by default in Pixel 9a phones and newer, but you can turn it on manually on older Pixels all the way back to the Pixel 6. This should help your phone last longer, but it might reduce performance once you get past 200 charge cycles.

New call screening features

This new feature will automatically record a message, sort of like an upgraded and smarter version of voicemail. It is coming to phones as old as the Pixel 4, but sadly, it’s only live in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, and Australia.

Call Notes

Another new feature for the calling app is that it will record your call to help you remember what you were chatting about. This feature is limited to just the Pixel 9 and 10 series in the U.S. right now.

Material 3 Expressive

The new upgraded software style of the Pixel 10 is coming back to tons of old Pixel phones, and via Google’s first-party apps, will also be noticeable if you’re using a third-party Android phone too.

Gemini Live updates

There are many updates coming to Gemini, which will be available to many Android users and even some people on iOS or the web. You can see what’s new with Gemini by reading Google’s full blog post. 

NotebookLM in screenshots and recorder apps

Now, Notebook LM can access the Pixel Recorder and Screenshots app to see what you’re doing and whether those things need to be added to your AI notebook.

More AI tools in Gboard

Google is updating the Gboard keyboard with more AI smarts, so it should make more intelligent recommendations. The dictation algorithm should also be improved if you use voice typing.

Edit photos using AI and plain text

In the updated version of the Google Photos app, you can now use normal conversational language to ask Gemini to make edits to your photos. You can also ask for creative edits, like different backgrounds, or you can even restore old photos to bring back colour and remove scratches.
